Important News

New HSE Supervisor training program
The PDO and contractor community will see the new course first being provided by the Approved Training Providers (ATP) from the 1 December 2015.

Why are we changing?
PDO understands effective leadership in HSE is critical to our 'Goal Zero' journey.   An enhancement in our management and supervisory leadership capabilities can deliver a step change in PDOs HSE culture, reducing incidents and improving worker satisfaction.

What’s going?
The current six days supervisor training in the HSE learning ladder; Coaching and Mentoring (CMC), Safety for Supervisors &  (SLS & SLM) & HSE Tools and Skills become out of date, as do their individual refreshers.

What’s the new course?
The new six day program is to arm people with the skills of leadership, training, communication, hazard identification & risk assessment to effectively lead HSE within their respective team.  It is one course but please book specifically to your supervisory level.

What You Need to Know

If you are Compliant by 1st Dec?:

People that are fully compliant with their CMC, SLS and or SLM on the 1 December will only have to attend the one day HSELFS or HSELM refresher courses when their SLS or SLM courses expire.

If you are non compliant by 1 Dec:

If you have fallen into non compliance and allowed your CMC, SLS or SLM to expire,  on the 1 December you will not be able to attend these old courses again to be compliant and so must attend the new six day course.

Driver training:

There are also changes to the driver training in the new SP1157, mainly putting more sense behind those who needs refresher training and how often, so please do check out the changes.

Front line supervisors who manage front line employees should book the HSELFS course while all other supervisors and managers should book the HSELM course. This ensures the discussion, debates and experiences are all relevant to the attendees.

A one day refresher replaces the old refresher courses which will evolve to ensure it provides information on the latest issues and leadership concepts. The program has been carefully designed using the PDO reflective learning philosophy, and is based on fun, interaction, argument, debate and the all important competition.

Only key trainers who have proven their skills and have all been trained in this learning philosophy are able to deliver this course and will ensure the course delivers the learning experience without you feeling like you are being taught.

Candidates will discover new subjects including environmental management, delivering reflective learning, leadership and Asset Integrity. The course incorporates modern graphics, team competitions and challenges and will really allow self reflection as to how each leader has and will lead their team in the future

The course is such that even experienced managers can learn much..  A full day focuses on hazard identification & risk management, reflecting its importance to supervisors, helps them understand how to make this a simple, every day, in every job habit to protect the team.

It is designed to fit into a two week on-boarding process for new management, as contractors will combine it with the new two day HSE Orientation and the H2S course thus allowing mobilization to the field quicker than today.

SP1157 will be updated & the ATPs have changed their course calendars accordingly.
