What are the benefits of ISO 14001?
The current standard, to which PDO is certified, is ISO 14001-2004. Some of the benefits for using ISO 14001-2004 include:
- Continual improvement of the EMS
- Reduced cost (e.g. waste management, discharges and releases)
- Independent assessment
- Savings in consumption of energy and materials
|
|
- Improved corporate image among regulators, customers and the public.
Over time, the ISO 14001 has significantly improved PDO’s EMS and contractors’ performance. The current ISO 14001-2004 certificate was issued to PDO by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) after a thorough re-certification assessment in April 2014 and is valid for a three-year period.

PDO has developed a comprehensive HSE Management System (CP-122) which incorporates the requirements of ISO 14001-2004. The HSE Policy incorporates the requirements of the ISO 14001 system standard. The policy calls for compliance with legal requirements so that no harm is posed to people and the environment. One of the key requirements of the ISO 14001 is to develop an Environmental Aspect and Impact register. Aspect identification is important, since it is from this identification of the potential to impact the environment that the rest of the EMS is built. |
