Spill Response:
In case of a spillage, priority shall be in this order:
1.Safety of Individual
2.Environmental Protection
3.Damage Control
The following thing you need to know when spill occurs:
•Any spill needs to be reported in PDO Incident Management (PIM) regardless of the volume spilled.
•Any oil spill greater than 10m3 needs to be reported to Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) within 24 hours though MSE2 department. Provide spill kits wherever there is a hazardous chemical substance.Unless you know the material spilt and trained to attend it.

YOU should never attempt to deal with it. Inspection of the containers and pipelines is necessary to ensure its integrity. Wherever this becomes difficult, e.g. flowlines then make sure to have a suitable replacement plan in place.
Following an oil spill, the following steps shall be taken:
1.Stop the spill source
2.Barricade the Area
3.Aim to contain the spillage by:
a.Stopping it from entering drains.
b.Channel it to a pit.
4.If liquid oil is present, collect it using vacuum tanker.
|
|
5.Initiate restoration (cleanup) process using mechanical and/or manual tools. The aim of restoration is to leave the site in a condition which does not result in a potential for undue future liability to the Company.
6.For oil leaks in soil greater than 10m3, once the area is cleaned:
a.Collect soil samples and analyse it for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH).
b.If TPH content is greater than 1% (10,000 mg/kg), then do further cleaning of the area.
c.Once the target is achieved, replace the excavated contaminated soil with fresh one.
