Important News

You might remember back in 2010 we reminded everyone of the importance of not forgetting medical check-ups and invited you all to check out your health with a medical? We have now enhanced our facilities with new advanced lab equipment which includes heart diagnosis so we can assess the health of your heart from within PDO.
It is so important to monitor your health at regular intervals. Our statistics suggest that some staff are not getting the message with periodic medicals.

The table above shows the number of Medicals is decreasing whilst our workforce is increasing.
Investigations of Non accidental deaths over the past few years have highlighted the importance of periodic medical checkups. They, revealed that lack of compliance with the medical checkup requirements was among the leading causes of non accidental deaths. People who did not undergo pre-employment and periodic medical checkups are more likely to die at a young age as a result of undetected medical problems. Early diagnosis and treatment could have saved lives.

What You Need to Know

Ramadan Safety Tips:

Remember during Ramadan our daily routines are altered, especially for those who fast and suffer from low blood sugar levels and dehydration. In addition, short nights mean less sleep which can lead to fatigue, inevitable distraction and stress. Please be extra cautious while driving on the roads. It is important to follow journey management procedures, avoiding unnecessary journeys, buckle up and avoid driving when tired or distracted.

First Aid Training:

The PDO medical team in Qarn Alam and Marmul have initiated and conducted first Aid refresher courses for PDO and contractor first Aiders. The sessions ensure that live saving skills are maintained as well as instilling confidence and enhancing the performance of First Aiders in the use of defibrillators. The course helps to ensure they provide the right first aid treatment at the right time.

In today’s modern age, our lifestyle, daily stresses and environmental factors can lead to new health issues not experienced by previous generations. Early medical checks are essential to avoid any health issues getting progressively worse and complications setting in. PDO has suffered ten deaths from medical conditions since the start of the year and some were due to chronic medical conditions that if detected and treated may have saved their lives.

If your blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol are abnormally high then you might need medication and changes to your lifestyle to cope.   Serious medical condition such as cancers can remain dormant for years but can also be discovered during routine checkups. Six people in PDO benefited from early diagnosis of their cancer, underlining the importance of looking after your health and attending a medical checkup.

To reflect the importance of adopting this good practice, periodic medical checkups are now compulsory. It is even more important if you are Interior based as the hospital can be a long way away when you need it most.  We would like everyone to be proactive and book your medical check through the MAF or any of the  Interior clinics. Don’t rely on a reminder as the old system is being upgraded and is out of action.
Spread the word with your friends and colleagues and get booked into a medical and look after your health.
